Markham Vale job numbers set to be boosted further

Record job numbers at Markham Vale are set to swell further, with works progressing on the developments’ newest building, MV55.

Markham Vale is a 200-acre industrial and logistics development located at Junction 29A of the M1 in Derbyshire, a joint venture between Henry Boot Developments (HBD) and Derbyshire County Council.

A record 2,236 people are currently employed at Markham Vale; an increase of almost 600 new jobs during the past 12 months alone. Testament to the success of the regeneration of the former colliery site, more people are employed at the site than when it was a working coal mine.

HBD’s newest addition to Markham Vale, ‘MV55’ is a 55,000 sq ft warehouse being built on a speculative basis.

MV55 fronts the M1 and includes flexible office space ranging from 2,500 sq ft to 5,000 sq ft alongside high-quality industrial facilities and 50 on-site parking spaces.

Andrew Priestley, Development Surveyor at HBD, said: “MV55 is the newest addition to Markham Vale, which we’re building on a speculative basis. That’s very much a reflection of the continued demand for well-located, high-quality industrial property. Markham Vale is one of the region’s most well-established, successful industrial locations, which gives occupiers confidence, whether relocating or creating a new site.

“There is an acute shortage of good quality industrial space across Yorkshire and the East Midlands markets, particularly for buildings between 20,000 sq ft and 100,000 sq ft, resulting in a high degree of latent demand for new-build product like MV55.”

Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, Councillor Tony King, said: “We’re delighted to hear work is progressing well on this latest development at our flagship regeneration site, Markham Vale.

“Supporting businesses and bringing quality jobs to Derbyshire are key priorities of ours and we look forward to welcoming a new company into this space very soon.”

Plots of up to 15 acres remain available at Markham Vale and can accommodate flexible design and build units up to 300,000 sq ft.

Henry Boot PLC and its Group Companies has, following the introduction of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 (the “Act”) implemented a number of measures which seek to bring about greater transparency and scrutiny into our various supply chains, in order to combat slavery and trafficking activities. We continue to keep under regular review our Human Trafficking and Slavery Statement (the ‘Statement’), setting out the activities undertaken to reduce the risk of slavery and trafficking activities being present within our business operations. These measures include the introduction of an Anti-Slavery Policy, due diligence requirements, and mandatory contract clauses seeking compliance by our supply chain with appropriate anti-slavery measures. Additional measures that have recently been put into place to increase knowledge and vigilance throughout our organisation and supply chain include posters and awareness cards across our sites.

We will continue to regularly work with our partners, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders, as well as keeping industry best practice under review, to monitor our approach for effectiveness, and consider any changes or additional measures as appropriate.
